Dear Showbirdbid members, It is with much joy that I announce the ABA has secured the rights to republish Ralph Sturgeon’s book, Start Where You Are With What You Have. Mr. Walt Leonard was the original publisher and he has graciously allowed us to reprint this historic book and make it available to the current generation of poultry fanciers! In my opinion, this is the book every new and old poultry breeder needs in their library! Ralph’s simplistic writing style makes it easy for all to understand the different methods of breeding and improving a line of birds and details a very easy plan to make your birds better than what they currently are. This book had a great influence on me as a young poultry breeder and his principles are still used by many poultry breeders today! Order your copy today from Karen or in the ABA Online store at bantamclub.com, today. Matt Lhamon
I haven't read it, and am looking forward to, but I'm pretty sure that I know what you're getting at. As far as I'm concerned, good. It helps to weed out the riffraff and know who to bother with, or not.

It will definitely be a new thing for those living off the internet babble. Line and inbreeding is discouraged by those who have never done it and never breed any quality birds of any significance. Most of the old timers I met as a kid, never out crossed and maintained their quality, productivity and livability for decades. Today we have folks that buy good birds and replicate them till they ruin them. My goal with reprinting this book was to show a tried and true way of improving what you have. Some newbees will cringe but like Brian Decker always says "What you tolerate is what you will have!"

Hi, Oh I so need to buy one of these books! Looked for one for years. Thanks! Next payday. BTW, If anyone is looking for vintage poultry books, many are available for free reading online. Probably that Jull book too. Bookscouting is a passion of mine, been doing it for 18 years. If you are seeking obscure and rare poultry or dog lit,( esp. . to read for free online....or buy, smile) drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org , be glad to go hunting for it gratis. Nothing like the thrill of the hunt, smile. Best, Karen Tewart Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
